1. Introduction
The Batty app is owned and operated by Circutus LLC (doing business as Circutus). Batty helps keep track of battery-operated devices and sends reminders when batteries need a check-up. The Batty app is available for mobile devices (such as phones and tablets) and desktop computers.
We believe that privacy is a fundamental right, not just a legal requirement. This policy explains in plain language how we collect, use, and protect your personal data when you use our app and website (https://BattyApp.com). It also outlines your rights and how you can exercise them. Your use of Batty is also governed by our Terms of Service. If you have any questions after reading this document, please reach out to us at support@battyapp.com.
2. What we collect & why
We only collect information that helps us deliver and improve our services. Here is a breakdown of what we collect, organized by how we get it and why we need it.
Information you give us directly
When you register for an account, and thus enable data backup and synchronization with our cloud services, you hand us specific information so we can fulfill your requests. This includes your name, email address, account preferences, information about the battery-operated devices you choose to track, and any photos you take of those devices. Your device records and photos are stored in your account so they stay in sync across your phones, tablets, and computers. Legal Basis: We process this data primarily to fulfill our contract with you (managing your account and app content).
Information collected automatically
As you use the Batty app, we automatically collect certain technical data to ensure the app functions correctly and to understand how our users interact with our services. This includes device information (like your device model and operating system), usage analytics, and technical logs. Legal Basis: We process this data based on our legitimate interest in maintaining app stability, troubleshooting bugs, and improving the overall user experience.
Push notification tokens
If you have an account and allow the Batty app to send you notifications, your device’s operating system issues a push notification token for the app, which the app sends to us along with your preferred language. A push notification token is a random identifier that lets us deliver notifications to that installation of the Batty app; it does not contain your name or email address. If you turn off notifications or uninstall the app, the token stops working, and we delete it the next time the push notification service tells us it is no longer valid. Legal Basis: We process this data to fulfill our contract with you (delivering the reminders and notifications you asked for).
Information from third parties
We do not collect any information about you from third parties. We only collect information directly from you.
3. How we use your information
Every piece of data we collect has a specific purpose tied to operating the Batty app. We use your information to:
- Deliver Core Services: When you create an online account we use it to synchronize your data between our cloud services and the Batty app on your devices. (Legal basis: Contract)
- Send Reminders and Notifications: If you allow notifications, we use your push notification token to send reminders and updates about your account to the Batty app on your devices. (Legal basis: Contract)
- Improve and Personalize the App: We analyze usage data and technical logs to understand which features are popular, fix crashes, and tailor your experience. (Legal basis: Legitimate Interest)
- Ensure Security and Prevent Fraud: We monitor technical logs and device information to detect suspicious activity and protect your account from unauthorized access. (Legal basis: Legitimate Interest)
- Communicate with You: We use your email to facilitate password resets, respond to your support inquiries, and communicate important service information. (Legal basis: Contract)
- Send Marketing Communications: If you opt in, we will send you promotional offers and updates about new products. You can opt out of these at any time. (Legal basis: Consent)
How Batty uses data to sustain our business
Batty is a commercial product, and we want to be upfront about that. Part of how we keep the app running—and keep a free version available—is by learning, in aggregate, which battery-operated devices people own, what kinds of batteries those devices use, and how people manage them over time. We use this understanding to improve Batty and to research, develop, and offer new products and services, some of which we may sell.
When we use data this way, we work with information that has been combined and de-identified, so it reflects patterns across many users rather than anything that identifies you personally. Any insights, reports, models, or products we create from this analysis belong to Circutus LLC, even when they contribute to our commercial success. We think this is a fair trade: it lets us keep improving Batty while helping you save money and cut down on battery waste and expense. (Legal basis: Legitimate Interest)
4. When we share your information
We respect your privacy and limit data sharing to what is strictly necessary to run our business. We never sell your personal data. We only share your information in the following scenarios:
- Essential Service Providers: We share data with trusted vendors who help us operate. For example, we use Amazon Web Services (AWS) to securely host our application and your data.
- Push Notification Services: To deliver notifications, we send your push notification token and the content of each notification to the push notification service for your device. On Android devices, we use Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), operated by Google. On Apple devices, we use the Apple Push Notification service (APNs), operated by Apple. Each service only receives the notifications for devices on its own platform.
- Legal Requirements: If we are required by law, court order, or valid government request, we will disclose your information to comply with legal obligations.
- Business Transitions: If Circutus LLC, or the Batty app, is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your personal information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
- With Your Consent: If we need to share your data for any other reason, we will ask for your explicit permission first.
- Future Sharing Features: Today, the content you create in Batty is private to your own account, and we do not disclose it to other users. We are developing a feature that will let you choose to share specific devices and photos with other people. If and when you decide to use that feature, the devices and photos you select will be shared only with the people you choose. We will update this Privacy Policy and give you notice in the app before any such feature becomes available.
5. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live—including under the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, PIPEDA, and various US State Privacy Laws—you have significant power over your personal data. We extend these core rights to all our users globally:
- Access Your Data: You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you. We will provide this within 30 days.
- Correct Inaccuracies: If your name, email, or other details are wrong, you can update them directly in your account settings or ask us to do it for you.
- Delete Your Data: You can request that we delete your account and associated personal data. We will honor this request, keeping only what we are legally required to retain.
- Port Your Data: You can ask for your data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format so you can transfer it to another service.
- Opt-Out of Marketing: You can unsubscribe from our promotional emails at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of our emails or updating your account preferences.
- Turn Off Notifications: You can stop receiving push notifications at any time in your device’s notification settings.
- Withdraw Consent: Where we rely on your consent to process data, you can withdraw it at any time. This will not affect the legality of any processing we did before you withdrew consent.
- Lodge Complaints: You have the right to complain to a data protection authority about our collection and use of your personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, please email support@battyapp.com.
6. Data security
We take the security of your personal information seriously. We implement standard, industry-recognized security measures, including encryption of data in transit and at rest, strict access controls for our staff, and continuous monitoring of our Amazon Web Services (AWS) hosting environment.
However, we want to be honest with you: no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. Do not provide personal information about yourself or others that you would not want to be publicly available.
You also play a vital role in keeping your data safe. Please choose a strong, unique password for your Batty app account and keep your mobile devices and desktop computers secure. In the unlikely event of a data breach that compromises your personal information, we will notify the relevant authorities within the timeframes required by law (under the GDPR, generally within 72 hours), and we will notify affected users without undue delay where the law requires it. We can only send these notifications by email if you have an active user account on BattyApp.com and the email address for that account is accurate and able to receive mail.
7. Data retention
We do not keep your data forever. Our standard data retention period is 2 years from your last interaction with our app. Here is how we apply this rule:
- Active Account Data: We keep your profile, preferences, and app content (including device records and photos) while your account is active, and for 2 years after you close your account, to handle any legal and customer service inquiries. This matches the “2 years after account closure” period shown in the table below.
- Push Notification Tokens: We keep a push notification token only until the push notification service tells us it is no longer valid, or until you close your account, whichever comes first.
- Financial Records: By law, we must keep records of financial transactions for up to 7 years for tax and accounting purposes.
- Marketing Preferences: We retain your consent records until you withdraw them or opt out.
- Technical Logs: We routinely clear technical logs and usage analytics after 12 months, as they are no longer useful for troubleshooting beyond that point.
8. Cookies & tracking
Our account registration and authentication website, which is securely used by the Batty app, uses cookies to function properly.
Because we do not sell your data or use invasive third-party advertising trackers, we keep our cookie use focused strictly on service delivery.
9. Children’s privacy
Batty is designed for general audiences and business services. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately at support@battyapp.com. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. See our Terms of Service for the age requirements to use Batty and to create an account.
10. International transfers
Our AWS cloud services are located in the United States. Account holders outside the United States may have personal data transferred to, stored, and processed outside of one’s home jurisdiction. The push notification services operated by Google and Apple may also process push notification tokens and notification content in the United States and other countries.
When we transfer data originating from the European Economic Area (EEA), the UK, or Canada to other countries, we ensure it is protected by appropriate legal safeguards. Specifically, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission and the UK Information Commissioner’s Office to ensure your data receives the same level of protection it would at home.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our business operations or legal requirements.
If we make significant changes, we will provide fair notice by sending an email to the address associated with your account or by displaying a prominent banner in the Batty app before the changes take effect. Your existing data will continue to be treated under the terms in place when it was collected unless you agree otherwise. You can always find the most current version of this policy at https://BattyApp.com/privacy.
12. Contact us
We welcome your questions, concerns, and feedback regarding this Privacy Policy. You can reach us through the following methods:
- Privacy & Support Email: support@battyapp.com
- Website: https://BattyApp.com
We aim to respond to all privacy-related inquiries within 7 to 14 business days.
13. Categories table (CCPA/CPRA)
For residents of California and other US states with similar privacy laws, the following table details the categories of personal information we have collected in the past 12 months, where we got it, why we collected it, who we shared it with, and how long we keep it.

Note on Sensitive Personal Information: We do not collect or process Sensitive Personal Information (such as precise geolocation, racial origin, or biometric data) for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you.
14. Automated decision-making
We want to be entirely transparent: Circutus LLC does not use any automated decision-making or profiling systems that produce legal or similarly significant effects concerning you (as defined under GDPR Article 22). All significant decisions regarding your account, refunds, or business services involve human review.
15. Sub-processors
To provide our services, we engage third-party vendors known as sub-processors. Currently, our sub-processors are:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS), which provides our secure cloud hosting infrastructure.
- Google, which operates Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to deliver push notifications to Android devices only.
- Apple, which operates the Apple Push Notification service (APNs) to deliver push notifications to Apple devices only.
You can request a list of active sub-processors at any time by emailing support@battyapp.com.
16. EU/UK representative
With regard to Article 27 of the GDPR, neither the Batty app nor Circutus LLC presently conducts frequent processing, large-scale processing, or processing of special categories of data (described in Article 9(1)), and we make efforts not to infringe on the “rights and freedoms” of EU/UK data subjects. We therefore do not currently have a Data Representative in the EU/UK, but will continuously review this requirement as our service continues operation.
Please contact support@battyapp.com for questions or concerns regarding this and other GDPR requirements.
17. Supervisory authority
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom and you believe our processing of your personal data violates data protection laws, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
- In the UK: You may contact the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
- In the EEA: You may contact the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) or the local supervisory authority in the country of your habitual residence, place of work, or place of the alleged infringement.
